All right, I've been here since September 20 and I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers for the horses I have acquired so far. Anything, possible races and distances, circuits I should race in, how long of a rest in between races I should employ, all that sort of stuff. As I said, I'm still very new at this, but racing is very big with me. I've just never had to deal with training a horse before, haha. Thanks!

Kira,
In the beginning there is the great desire to run your horses the way one might really run a horse, every 10-14 days for awhile then a rest. But in the SIM they really need to take 3-4 SIM weeks between races (older 3 weeks, younger 4 weeks)otherwise they will breakdown. Also try to find the right place for your horses ability. You are putting horses that were competitive at claiming 35K in for stakes $100,000. This can get you a check but then, I'm told, they will learn to run behind other horse all the time. Get some wins.
Works for your yearly should have been done later in the year and not so close together. They only need two to be able to race as two year olds. Wait and work one more time in week 11 or 12 so they'll be ready to race early as two year olds. Try to figure if they are sprinter or routers. Deepest Cut looks to be a router and should start later in the year. Wonder Star is a little harder to figure but may be turf.
It looks like you've only purchased 2 horses. You need money. Write some good articles and make $25,000 for each. Try buying some better horses who will get some more money to buy more horses. I've learned that there are a lot of very powerful stables in this SIM and they take most of the money. It's going to take time and small steps to be competitive with the better stables. Read the Forum, read articles and ask questions.
Good luck

the walk through is an excellent thing to read I would do that
here is the schedule I tend to go by
2 yr olds mostly every 4 weeks so maybe 3 to 5 starts in a year if I have one of the breaks being only 3 weeks between races
3 and up I tend to think a schedule of every 3 weeks
I tend not to use the work outs in the race horses unless they are coming off a lay off, or they are yearlings almost 2 yr olds who need their 2 work outs before they can race
one place I would take advantage of is the newbie sales page(although beware of maiden steeplechasers, unless you want to take the chance), and trial park
I would maybe look at a horse and stick with their capabilities, and now I will look at your runners, like to point out I am still fairly new for me myself
Uruguay-could use a confidence boost, maybe drop him back down to a mile, mile and a sixteenth, might even consider dropping him in to a claimer at that distance on the turf, and one thing about lasix though once a horse is on you pretty much have to keep them on it from my understanding so maybe his equipment needs to be sr, l, hb, tt
Riding a Raid I would maybe find a race going 1 1/4 miles on the dirt in a non winners of 2 or 3 race with the l hb tt, he seems to like a bit of distance
midnight dreams I dunno, my belief with the jumpers they will either do good right away or the may not
frustration see above

I didn't have time to take a serious look, but my first thought is to get rid of the maiden 'chasers that are running in the bottom half of the field every time...they're just hayburners. Getting them sold might be tough -- I might suggest just cutting your losses and sending them away to "Greener Pastures."
Much good advice already in this thread. Write articles for $, race at Trial Park when you can, and keep an eye on the New Player sales page.
Good luck

I have 2 good horses, 1 possibly good horse, and 2 potentially good 2-year olds. So you have at least 15 more good horses than I do and I started playing the Sim around the same time you started.

Thanks to everyone who replied, I am taking all advice and storing it away to use for the future.
What type of articles should be written? Anything or something to do with the game?

There's lots of things - they have to have something to do with the game - (although, when you look at Scott's - his hilarious articles are sometimes only loosely tied to the game)Kira Ravenwood wrote: Thanks to everyone who replied, I am taking all advice and storing it away to use for the future.

If you enjoy breeding, you can write articles about certain studs or broodmare sires, if you enjoy racing you can pick a circuit and write about the stakes races in that circuit, etc.
I'm just here for the fun of it

I kind of gravitated toward covering turf routes and writing some auction articles. Amy Atkins has been doing "newbie news". Megan Grant does all sorts of previews, as do others.
I would suggest just reading through a half dozen or so good articles, and see what sparks your interest. We could really use more coverage of "divisions", like dirt or turf sprints, turf milers, steeplechasers. But really, whatever (within the SIM) interests you is fine. Anything that involves research will be beneficial to you in two ways: you earn SIM cash, and you learn about the game.
Good luck!

I've written articles about a specific race preview/results, breeding, horse names, silks, between years lull. I bounce around a lot. Read some that are out there for sure, find something that interests you and go for it. Make sure you get the facts correct and if you name a player, researh them so have all their right information(I've mess up here before). 500 words gets you $25K and additional words get you more money. It really helps in the beginning. Paul and I both have made hundreds of thousands of dollar in articles during our start up. With that you can get a couple of really nice horses that can race and get you some checks.

Thank you everyone! haha, I've done two articles so far and gotten $50k. It's helped a lot. I now have 18 horses in my stable (woo hoo!) and am working on saving up in anticipation of the Emily Shields yearling auction.
Anyway, rather than make a new thread and using up that space, I decided to just post here again.
I am working on scheduling my horses. I have put 5 of my horses on one week, another 5 on the week after that, and then the rest are on the week after that...
Would anyone care to take a look and see if I'm doing a good job or not? Any help is appreciated and once again, thanks SO much to Jolene for my silks! And everyone else out there who has given/sold me horses!

Smiley Cat, I shall say this was an experiment on my part as if you look at the mare so so results, I am thinking since he finished 3rd in his last race maybe try another turf sprint but maybe around 6 to 7 furlong mark, and maybe try and see if you can find a maiden claiming race
