Help Me Matchmake!

Post by Lily Wilkins »

I have Bananas on lease.
I’m having trouble deciding who to send her to. I have a handful of ideas, and I’m open to alternative suggestions, or +1 opinions on any of these options.

- Valley Of Fire: A+ nick, which is always enticing. But I’d pretty much be breeding to him because of the nick grade. I don’t love the pedigree matchup itself. Although I wouldn’t mind breeding to a stud who could shorten the mare up!

- Mace: I love this guy, and pedigree-wise it’s a matchup that seems like it would work.

- Duke of Edinburgh: Danny’s James Dean mare Spe Chan has a Freak yearling by Duke. LOVE the way the pedigree chart for him and Bananas looks!

- Primetime: a proven match. She’s got a Freak yearling colt by him, and The Steward has bred some James Dean mares to him.

- Quinny: I’ve considered hanging onto Bananas and sending her to my guy at the end of the season. He’s got the DMB sire line, which the mare has produced a Stakes with already, he would shorten her up, and it would support my own stud.

I just sent my James Dean freak and late blooming stakes machine, also out of a Doctor mare, to Primetime. Absolutely LOVE the cross. For the record, she also has 2 freaks by War Like Me, including my graded stakes winning 3yo Emptiness Man, and late blooming stakes by Can't Take the Sky and Dave Matthews Band ;)

I would breed her to War Like Me. Me Against Myself was a horse I bred from a James Dean Mare. She galloped freak - Late Bloomer. There are multiple War Like Me X James Dean Mares that came out excellent too. Every year starting Y60 onwards except y61 timed workout rankings you would see a War Like Me X James Dean Mare. I would choose the gender as fillies cause most of the top earners for WLM x James Dean have been fillies for the most part.

As for VOF I don't like the cross too. I would probably only use VOF for DMB/Nokk Mares or any mares with somewhat of a similar pedigree to DMB mares.

Primetime now this one I really like too, but the only reason I am gonna use WLM over him is because WLM is 12 years old and Primetime is 8 years old. Meaning I would have less of a chance to get a WLM x James Dean Mare on WLM if I still do not have one. And also WLM has way more data showing why he would be a good choice because of his age and number of foals. But, if I already do have a WLM x James Dean Mare would definitely go for Primetime cross instead.

Primetime makes a lot of sense for the cross. James dean mares love gladiator and kingdom come so trying their sons is a natural response. If you like inbreeding more you could try owlpha Romeo.

Bananas has an interesting kid in Follow your fruit. You could try to chase the follow your gate line a bit and do private affair or go one step farther with Ted lasso

Sounds like an amusement park ad?

A roller coaster ride for certain.

Come one, come all.

Ride the Slide, for the highest of highs, :D

Good luck with your shiny new foal!
