Who should she love this year?

Post by Danny Derby »

Hoping to crowdsource some opinions on which stud my big filly Into The Unknown should visit this year - I figure it's easier than agonizing over it alone.

The foal with be a filly, and I'm looking to avoid any excessive inbreeding which is becoming harder and harder with my mares from the Wish Upon A Star line. All six foals to date are freak, so hoping to make it a lucky 7!

I’d give Ted Lasso a look…think he’d be good for a filly…if it was a colt I’d say Xyst. Know these are new sires but first crop numbers looking good..could wait and see how the workout times are from their foals before breeding.

She is an A+ hypo with Deshaan.

Strange the Dreamer? I like the two fillies I got by him last year, one freak, one stakes, both late bloomers and breeding shed comments for what it’s worth.

I’d second all of the options suggested so far. I have had good results myself or seen good results from all 4.

Hopefully in a few years Royal Assassin will be proven enough to see her. He’s clear of any inbreeding with her. Definitely wouldn’t expect her to even look at him until he’s at least got yearling gallops though.

I'm tempted to say Valley Of Fire just for fun. He's been a pretty impressive guy so far, and there's going to be no inbreeding in the first three generations. His short-distance preference might make for a decent filly too. I LOVE my VOF fillies.

She’s A+ to Cody’s Wish if you really want to avoid
inbreeding ;)

Mage for the full outcross while not sacrificing too much distance ability. Hypo is A+

I suggest Parts Unknown before he pensions. He still produces at a very high rate and all the inbreeding will wash out. Plus you get the added benefit of both horses with “unknown” in their name! It was meant to be!

I looked at this one, too, because there is some history on similar crosses producing really nice horses. I thought he might not like the inbreeding, but I do like the cross.

Bit of a different take, but I'd be looking hard at Unmerciful. Gladiator + Mr. Wonderful is a match made in heaven, and I have a filly that I just love from him. I really need to breed more.
