Oaks, Or No?

Post by Lily Wilkins »

I'm trying to decide if Teal's next start should be the Louisville Oaks.
She's certainly bred for the distance, and she has exceeded all of my expectations so far. That said, she is only a "Stakes" galloper and her start last night wasn't quite as easy of a victory as I was hoping it would be. Nonetheless, she is 4 for 4 and a career best SF of 96 is nothing to scoff at.

The Steward offered me $15 million for this filly during the Gold Star Stakes broadcast (which was one of my major SIM career highlights so far ) so she must be pretty nice ;)

If she were yours, would it be Oaks, or no Oaks?

Should have haggled with Emily over the price.

$20 mil was within your reach.

Lily, unless you toss them into the deep end from time to time, you will never know just how good your horse is. She's already won a G1, so I don't think she would be out of her class. If she loses/finishes badly, it's 1 race, and it could tell you a lot more about your horse. She could still as a stakes enter more G1, but maybe not those huge purse, prestigious races, until maybe later, and depending upon her likes as far as distances, or her jumping up to freak...etc.

The best horse doesn't always win, so if there is a super freaky filly out there, she probably will win, but again, sometimes the wheels just fall off and and a longshot takes the win.

I'm one for throwing my horses against the competition, often with the expectation that they won't win...so when they don't win, I'm not all that upset about it....but when they win...WHOOT!

You can’t win if you don’t play.

Not even a question in my opinion, what do you lose by running her? Her unbeaten record maybe, but in this division it’s unlikely she would keep it even if you kept her under tight wraps. Running is definitely the most logical thing to do.
