My First Stakes Starter!

Post by Natasha Yar »

I own one mare (the light of my life and reason to get out of bed every morning) and she has had 5 foals for me. Her 2 year old is entered to run in the G3 With Anticipation Stakes on Thursday at Saratoga!

Her eldest daughter is “technically” a stakes winner, though it was a $5,000 3-horse-race at a fairground in Canada and doesn’t come up on blacktype searches. So I don’t think I can count it.
Either way, Wine Collector is her first Graded Stakes entrant.
My little Zuko has not shown much indication that he is at the level necessary to be competitive there, but I suppose there is always hope he will freak on the day, or is just better than he has shown.
He won last out in a MSW at a mile on the turf at Colonial, so it’s a big jump in class and adding distance.
Either way, I am so proud of both him and his mother and thrilled to have the chance to watch one of my babies compete at my childhood home track in such a race.

Extra fun: This colt was actually the subject of my first “guess the foaling date contest” I held here on the SIM forum. (I believe Cleo Patra won by guessing the correct date and gender).

Best of luck! Also my family had a mare that went back to TV Lark. My sister was listed as the owner and was born the same year as Lark's Medley. Lark later became a rather nice jumper for my sister.

It's better to have it & not need it than to need it & not have it.

Woohoo! Best of luck. Already having a win puts him in good stead, and you never know whats going to happen in 2yo races.

Definitely!
Beat 5 lengths at Saratoga is a winner elsewhere.

He’s running back in the Laurel Futurity tomorrow and is running against one of his old pasture friends that we foaled; the 7 horse Massif.
Love when horses that grew up together end up meeting again on the track.
