Foals you really want great gallops for..

Post by Stormy Peak »

Yeah, I know the obvious answer to the title... All of them!

But if you had to choose a few colts and/or fillies you really want to be freaks...show us the links : )

Here are mine. Both colts were named after 2 of my favorite t.v. shows

Hill Street Blues This colt, unlike a lot of my nicer horses, doesn't have any 'Foremost' lineage in him.

The name:
~Coltrane is the name of a famous musician know mostly for jazz, but who also played blues too.
~Fade To Love, by Fade To Black - In Hill Street Blues, cliff hanger scenes often faded to black while the audio was still playing.

Longmire
Longmire - I found in book form long before I knew it was a t.v. show...lol. The whole time I was going through the book series I kept thinking, "They ought to make a t.v. series of these books!" A few years later, I did find the t.v. series, that had been on for like 4 seasons by then...lol.
~In the books, Longmire owns a beast of a dog, named Dog...no one dared to provoke Dog. So that fit in with the sire's name.
~The dam, A Few Mistakes Ago...in the series, often mistakes from the past, caught up with wrong doers that Longmire would find out about and thus point him to going after those people.

One of my filly hopefuls
Mae West
Her dam is named, Night Court...another favorite t.v. show of mine. The actress Mae West once spent 2 nights in jail on an indecency arrest. : ) I would also love to see my sire, Wolfman Jack, get a super awesome filly for my stable.

Stormy
SIRES: Turf Routers - Each multiple G1 winners

Tuck Everlasting
Fee $30,500

Wolfman Jack
Fee $18,000

This year I am glad to not have any that just have to gallop great or I will die. It is a good year for unexpected upside surprises. That said, this guy that I bred during the combo hurricane/earthquake we had earlier this year should be good on name alone! https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1788984

If this is about what we're wishing/hoping for more than 'expectations', I would like these three to gallop well:

Red Reckoner - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1796520. Half-brother to my SC filly. For him it's more about being a possible stud than a great racer. I'd be happier for a stakes with great future hypos over a freak with poor future hypos and 10x the earnings. I would like him to be fast enough to end up in one or another called race so I could hear Emily get flustered (again) about a black horse with "red" in the name :D.

Wizard's Bedgirl - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1795246. Her older half-sister just broke her maiden in week 16 week with a 90 SF and she hasn't peaked yet so I expect her to go big next season. My boy Wizard's Council had his first few restricted stakes winners in Y65. It would be so nice if I could do one better for him and breed him a graded stakes contender before he pensions in Y66.

Nox's Tsarina - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1791439. Another one with a strong half-sibling that fired in week 16. But her dam is getting on in years and so if her older half-brother doesn't work out I'm hoping she does as a future stakes winner and broodmare to give me another set of tries at a TR stud.

Go - slide- go! So many of my best runners are from formidable (and even "Good") mares, which makes for delightful surprises, and significant disappointments from all those Blue Hens.

High hopes for: Fred Noonan - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1785612. (named for Amelia Earhart's copilot)
Canterbury Tale - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1787835 - maybe the wonderful Folktales will give me at least one great offspring
Double Dare Me - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1790306 - best to the best and hope for the best
Say a Little Prayer - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1790306 - first foal from Under My Umbrella

and of course "all of them!"
I'm just here for the fun of it

My broodmare band is still meh but I've used spreadsheets to find crosses this year. Still better to keep my expectations low. At the very least, I'd like this foal from my only (known) Blue Hen to gallop above allowance.

For me it's In The Air Tonight's baby and Eloquent Sound's baby, though I'd love to see Notacatbutalawyer get an actual yearling stakes galloper as well (almost all his allowance yearlings are LBs).
Notacatbutalawyer 16: 8-3-1, earnings of $381,300 Founder Stakes, Flat Out Stakes, Lexington Race Course Stakes, Dade County Classic, Sunshine State Stakes, Distorted Reality Stakes, Midnight in the Sahara Stakes

My first ‘proper’ year of breeding (not counting the couple of terrible horrible I bred as a new player). I’ve bred 19 foals and i’ve sunk a lot (relative to what I have) and tons of research into it. Still getting to grips so expectations are low, but still super excited!

Have used vast majority blue hens (rest stars) and all are on minimum A- hypos, most flat As (I know its a debatably important metric, but as a newbie with limited experience I wanted to stack the odds in my favour as much as possible). I’ve also only bred fillies as ive been under the 20 foal limit and at this stage in the game i’m breeding with the intention of getting some future broodmares.

This has been my first year racing outside trial park and desperately need at least a couple of remotely useful babies as I havent exactly been raking in the cheques on the track 😭

I have no where near the broodmare band of the a lot of you guys, but some I am hoping will be useful are:

Mace x Heart Stands Still https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1796145 dam has produced 1x freak and 3x stakes. Dam is a half sister to a stewards cup/simmy award winner as well as a G1 winner/stew cup 2nd

War Like Me x Restless Dream https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1794588 dam is a G2 winning BH freak who is a sister to 3x G1 winners. Grandam is an oaks winner who is half sister to hall of famer All Of Time.

Xyst x In French https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1794691 Bibliomania damline (with an extra cross to Bibliomania in the sire’s 3rd gen). Has 5x crosses to Maryland Million.

Valley of Fire x Syncopate https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1800501 dam has produced 2x stakes and 2x allowance from 5 foals.

Acid Test x Chaos Explosion https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1794587 3 gens of stakes producing dams.

As a side note, went back through my babies for the first time in a couple weeks (did all my breeding early as I get very easily overwhelmed, especially with deadlines) to find the links to these guys, and im realising just how much money I spent on mares/stud fees for this little breeding experiment 💀 If this is just with my 19 foals I cant imagine some of the money you big players are shelling out. Praying I get a least a couple worth giving a chance on the track because if these are all write offs I dont think ill ever financially recover…

Heavy is the Crown's first baby Lae'zel has some awful big shoes to fill, if she's half as nice as her dam was I'll be thrilled.

No names yet but my other hopes are my Acid Test x Skyrim colt my Son of a Paint x Queen Calafia colt. I'm hopeful for Skyrim's colt because she's easily the best dirt route TB broodmare in my barn. On the other hand I almost didn't retire Calafia ran this year because she frustrated me so much so I'm praying her colt is nice so I don't regret my decision lol
