Who Shall I send This Freaking Queen To?

Post by Lily Wilkins »

I’m leasing Fiery Eyes this year (still pinching myself!) and am torn between two stallions for her. This community often offers great insights, so I figured I would post and see what folks think.

The two studs are Improvisational & Auguste Rodin

My major hesitation with Improvisational, is that the mare already has two exceptional offspring by him, and I will RAGE if I end up with a dud full sibling. Also, I feel like the division has been somewhat saturated with Improvisational’s DNA at this point.

My hesitation with Auguste Rodin, is that he is still relatively unproven. He looks nice, but his gallop percentages are likely inflated due to the group of Game-Created offspring he has - many of those are “Stakes” gallopers. I do love a good RL Stud x Game Lined mare cross though, and I could breed that foal to pretty much anyone once they start their breeding career.

I’ll be breeding a filly, in case that makes a difference in people’s opinions.
Who would you choose?
And while it might further fluster me, I do welcome alternative suggestions

I was able to lease a Roughian daughter last year and I bred her to Auguste Rodin, though in my case the decision was made partly due to the fact that I did the random gender and if it turned out to be a colt and he was knocking on the door of 350K I could make game point sired restricted stakes to help him get there (she had a filly, who is stakes late bloomer, sound, brave, no weather preference). That said I love Improvisational as a broodmare sire, so if I was between the two and knew I was breeding for a filly I'd certainly be tempted to go back to him since there's evidence that the cross works.

This probably was not actually helpful at all so I'm sorry

I *adore* Auguste Rodin and clearly, I believe I own the best horse Improvisational has ever sired (Signaling, who yes I know hasn't earned as much as Grogu or Fire Meet Gasoline, but she'll get there quickly). So I love both of these.

If you're leasing, you better breed a filly. And if you're gonna breed a filly, the saturation thing doesn't matter all that much. I'd do Improvisational. But I'd *want* to do Auguste. You're gonna be right either way, and don't worry about the full sibling thing. If you know a cross works, you are starting from a place of power. Still gotta get the luck we all need, but I'd rather know that a cross (adjusted for luck) worked twice, which means my centerpoint is between 'good' and 'great' and then we just add random slides around it.

When lightning strikes twice, it's usually going to strike a third time, I think.

That was a very smart cross, and I have 100% considered copying you
