Autumn has a very nice article that I just noticed https://www.simhorseracing.com/featurer ... leID=19852 titled "Restictions Are Your Friend."

If you are a new player, you probably should check this one out. It is a strategy that can be immediately implemented and can greatly increase your winning percentage and total earnings.

Yes, this. Also, remember that every horse can win a race where it is the only entrant, regardless of division. Any horse can finish 3rd in a 3-horse field. And, 2nd in a stakes might pay better than winning an allowance. Lots to think about.
