Ronnie Upsets SC Champ in His Debut

Post by Ronnie Dee »

In the Stable Condition Stakes for 3YOs at Artificial Arena, Uncharted Waters, last year's winner of the "Steward's Cup Synthetic Juvenile Fillies" was upset by Ronnie, a 3YO gray colt, making his debut. Going into the far turn, Uncharted Waters tracked pace setter Hong Kong on the rail with Ronnie just outside. Ronnie swung wide around Hong Kong while Uncharted Waters skimmed the rail. All in attendance waited for the Champ to pass the "rank outsider". But Ronnie had something left and Uncharted Waters could not match the winner. Hong Kong finished a game third.

Thanks!

Ronnie's sire (Bennie and the Jets) also won his debut in a listed stakes and his dam sire (Freak Out) won his debut in a Grade 3. But his dam is an unraced mare who would have been hard pressed to ever win a maiden claiming race. So the slide had a very big impact here.

Very well done Ronnie, takes some doing to get a 3yr old to win a competitive stakes like that on debut. One of my leases (Shattered The Dreams) last
season managed a debut second in an equally hot race and he went on to win 4/4 stakes races afterwards
I think you have a potential SC winner here

Congrats Ronnie! Just another reminder that Bennie is 14yo and his later progeny are still running strong. I was just looking for mares for him over the weekend so I can hit him up before he pensions.

Tbf though, the SC winner was coming off a short rest. Let's see how the rematch goes when they're both fully rested :)

Her very short rest (1.5 weeks) was definitely a factor in entering Ronnie in this stakes rather than against a much easier field in an MSW race.

I doubt if they will meet again. Ronnie's best distance will likely be 9 furlongs. Uncharted Waters best distances are probably 8 and 8.5 furlongs -- which are the distances of SC races for F&M.

Bennie's stud fee will remain at $12.5K but I will not pay for additional slots. This is the same policy that I have with Mage. I think both are excellent stallions with affordable stud fees.

The Beauty of Sim Horse Racing right there. I'm also having too much fun imagining a race call for this race "their is nothing shy about this Ronnie he has defeated a Steward's Cup winner in his first start!" Ronnie is a lovely name for a racehorse really hope he continues to get better and better from here.
