Need help for a retired racehorse

Post by Gigi Gofaster »

Those who know me know I don't like to ask for financial help, but I have a special situation (special to me at least), and hope I can tug on a few heartstrings. I've spoken with Em about this to get permission.

Here's the story -
Unafiestaparatodos is a Cal bred 2018 filly, she raced up here in WA before being sold to an off-track rehomer where she was restarted. She's little and feisty, and seemed a great polo prospect, so she was sold to a polo home. Now she's ended up in a feedlot and used up her extensions as we've tried to raise money to get her out and safe and ideally back up to WA where she can live out her days with me. She's in good shape, shiny and a decent weight, so my guess is she didn't make the grade at polo and this was the end result. I have a personal connection to two horses in her dam line, and know her from the track -I wanted to place a claim in 2022 to bring her home to retrain myself but my daughter needed care after her TBI and that took up the chance). I thought polo would be a perfect fit for her, so I was thrilled when she found a place, but for whatever reason that didn't work out and she's paying the price.

She needs $1800 to get out of the feedlot, vetted, and quarantined - that gets her safe. I've got $400, I'm reaching out to all of her post-track connections (her breeder was contacted and will not assist), but her time is running out. She got an extension over the weekend, but we are down to her last 18 hours now before she is shipped out.

All donations can go directly to her agent with 'Fiesta' in her subject line (donations are tax deductible):

Here she is when she first came of the track:

I've had a lot of off-track horses; those who know me know I love them - Spot who's an eventer in California, Missy who is a pony clubber's heart horse after kissing spine surgery, Obi who needed major treatment for ulcers after being virtually unrideable at the track but after treatments became a stellar 4H horse, Poppy who is with her forever mom in Wisconsin, Rory who was bought out of the yearling sale and eventually became my daughter's eventer, and of course Angel, who I've had at home for 8 years (and still have) and is absolutely never going anywhere. Fiesta should have been one of them, and it's so hard to see her at a feedlot when she was so close to so much better.

Any help is of course appreciated - and I will keep everyone updated on how she does.

A huge and heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped - Fiests is now safe, off the lot, and settling in at the vet hospital for evaluation, quarantine and care. This little mare was on a truck and heading out in Friday, and it’s been a team effort to get her safe!
