Suggestion For Simperior Edge

Post by Mr. Lord Rich »

There is a new section that starts off “ At the risk of one greedy person grabbing all, here are some horses with more to give, available from Alexandra Jaysman for $5000.”

These horses are all gobbled up within hours if not minutes of the edge release which means if you are not sitting idle waiting for the next edition, you will always miss out.
Being that these horses are only 5k it is a no brainer especially when someone with special abilities of the entry clerk to see what we can’t see is pointing them out.

How about the entry clerk holds a weekly public auction for these horses to new or junior players? The horses can be pulled from AJ and place in a weekly auction allowing a fair shot to the newer players to get something that might be a potential stepping stone for future success.

Speaking of suggestions - how about searching for entries, for the week(s) by trainer, In the general search page.

Agree with the auction idea for newer players - but maybe every 2-3 weeks instead of weekly? Not sure if it is easier to do weekly with a handful of horses, or a little less frequently with 10-20 horses.

Another alternative would be to use the claiming system. Put the horses in a claiming “race” that isn’t actually a race (admin would probably have the best idea of how to clone the claiming system) and have it shake out $5k claims. I think this is more in the spirit of what the entry clerk wants to achieve than auctions are.

I like either idea but prefer the claiming race because:

1) Newbies often don't buy at auctions. We just had several really good auctions, and yet we have new/ new-ish players posting in the forum about where can they get some horses.
2) Newbies may or may not stick, and then the horse just winds up back in AJ or an open dispersal.
3) The horses might be in AJ in the first place because they have a quirk, and that may be harder for a new player to work with.

But a lot of the horses that are recommended in the Edge are retired. A claiming race won't work for them.

I mean using the claiming code, not an actual race. Same process, no actual running. Admin would have to make a special setup for it, but the code exists so hopefully that’s not too difficult (but I haven’t coded for 12 years so 🤷‍♀️)

I kinda hate this idea for a few reasons.

1) Newbies will blow all their limited cash on these in auctions. And I'm guessing none of these are going to set the world on fire.

2) They'll then have to spend a chunk of more money to breed them to decent sire, and then wait nearly a full real life year for the foal to hit the track.

2) Newbies by definition are new. Focus should be on learning how to play the game and campaign your horses, not figuring out SIM bloodlines from the get go. They're better served with horses they can campaign and will make them money now.

3) The Edge is a paid perk for Simperior members. Is there anything wrong about keeping this as a perk for paid members? Entry Clerk could just add a note that anyone who buys more than one of the horses will have them confiscated. Problem of one greedy person getting them all solved, nice and easy.

Steward drops mares on sales page all the time. Farms become available at reduced prices in auto dispersals… picking up an AJ horse is low priority regulation… id still rather have entries by trainer available… so one could get claimers from seemingly stat driven trainers getting overly aggressive.

I thought that the Entry Clerk was just having some fun. He writes about some good (but not great) horses. It takes him very little effort to post these horses for sale. Then he makes some lucky players day better with nice treats.

This is similar to another common occurrence. A player quietly posts $1 unraced Allowance TBs for sale. It takes the player very little effort to put these horses up for sale. Then some observant players receive nice treats.

In both cases, I think the key element is fun rather than competition.

This suggestion does not belong in this thread, but “Two Small Things” thread, in my opinion. This discussion is about SIMperior Edge content, not new additions to the game.

This is a little different than a random player posting allowance horses for $1.
This is the entry clerk with special powers to see what the common player can't see and then pointing out horses that still might have some use in the game. Just thought this would be a nice opportunity for newish players versus vets just being quick on the clicky button
