Look, I see plenty of overpriced horses on the sales page every day, and I get it, people are afraid of leaving money on the table, so they start high, and either don't sell the horse, or they lower the price, and eventually sell the horse at some point (the point at which the price leads to someone willing to pay the price). Lots of players do this. I don't know why, simply because the owner in question posts on the forum that she put the horse up on the sales page instead of merely putting the horse up on the sales page, all this unsolicited criticism and advice is being posted. It isn't like she asked for our opinions. We can either pay or not pay. Simple as that.

I disagree. The very nature of a Forum is to promote two-way communication.Laura F. wrote: ...It isn't like she asked for our opinions...
On the other hand, I would not be opposed to having a place for announcements which would be for one-way (only) communication.

See, I don't know that I agree that every post in a forum is fair game, such as a post announcing that a horse is up for sale, nor am I sure that a whole other category just for one way communications is warranted, particularly when there are a slew of similar posts in this forum announcing that horses have been put up on the sales page, many with either 0 replies, or with replies only by the author updating the original post.
But, even assuming for the sake of argument that the mere act of posting puts the entire thread "up for grabs" in the name of promoting two-way communication, I'd love to know how some (not all, but some) of these replies "promote two-way communication."

I agree! I think this statement is quite insightful.Laura F. wrote:But, even assuming for the sake of argument that the mere act of posting puts the entire thread "up for grabs" in the name of promoting two-way communication, I'd love to know how some (not all, but some) of these replies "promote two-way communication."
I try (with limited success) to follow the ideal of "two-way communication" when I reply to Forum postings. As been pointed out by many, there are a lot of Buttons in the Sim. I regularly use the "Preview Post" button and the "Go Back" arrow in the Browser to delay/avoid posting. So I still satisfy my need to vent or express myself without subjecting others to all of my rants/ramblings.

There are many times that pieces of information are posted, where no response is required/expected/implied. Usually a response is requested. Such as "what do you think of this cross?" In this case, she could've said "what do you think of this price?"Ronnie Dee wrote:I disagree. The very nature of a Forum is to promote two-way communication.
However, I did not see that in her post. In my opinion, this price is a little high, but that's all it is- my opinion. She can set the price at what she wants to, just like anybody else can do for their horses.
Sorry...when I read this I couldn't help but respond.

I've been thinking it would be interesting to have a transactions page that shows what horses really sell for. When a horse sells (or is even given away) why not have a place to go to see owner A sold horse B to owner C for $xxx, xxx. Sales page prices vary so much that we lose sight of when potentially over priced horses never sell or have a lower offer accepted or is withdrawn, etc. I'd also like to see the great deals purchases. This might give a gauge of what the market is for a specific stallion or dam family so we could price appropriately.
Once in awhile I look at a horse while doing research and find that it was sold or given away and I'll say, "wow he/she paid a lot for that horse" or "he/she gave that horse away?" or "nice buy".
It maybe a lot of work for the Steward and may exposes some things we don't really want to see, but I'd love to see that kind of information.

Keith, the way the SIM is structured right now, you might see some things that on the surface appear fishy but are in fact harmless. Since we can't transfer money between players (for legitimate means) through any means except by buying and selling horses, but there are plenty of things which one might want to include in a transaction, I know that I personally use the purchase/subsesquent return of random or inconsequential horses (pensioned horses, foals, yearlings or other horses who won't be missed for 48 hours) to level up money that is owed people for discounted breedings, the purchase of GPs in exchange for SIM money, etc. Especially when these things are grouped together, it's an easier way to handle larger transactions than finding a time to be online to set up free breedings to five stallions or whatever. The unintended consequence is that every once in a while you'll find a horse that says "Sold to Eric Nalbone for $1,000,000" followed by "Given to ABC" 48 hours later.
How common a practice that is in the SIM I'm not sure, but I've used it for quite a while without problems. This isn't to say that transactions in the SIM wouldn't be an interesting thing to look at - I'm not sure whether I'd like to have all my transactions public, but it would be interesting to look at.
Anyway, my point is that if there is a way to quantify transactions as a whole, it'd be a very interesting idea. Otherwise, the fact that Game Points, breeding discounts, transactions involving horse trades, etc. all may make the straight money-for-horse log an incomplete picture of the SIM's transactions.

Come on, if you post something on a forum, you have to expect people to reply with their own opinions on said manner.Bill Deitch wrote:In my opinion, this price is a little high, but that's all it is- my opinion. I can't help but laugh when I check the sales pages, and see the likes of Jen and Steve Gates listing horses at ridiculous prices. Of course, they are entitled to attempt to sell a horse for whatever price they want, but I see no reason why they can't expect people to question "why?"
I do often wonder if they ever sell ever of these horses for such ridiculous prices. Of course, as most people do, I occassionally "over-price" a horse a little, to fathom interest in it. But nothing obscene.
My only fear is that complete newbies get caught out here.
i.e., go to the Buy Stallions page, and check out Captive. I'd be a bit angry if a newbie got sucked into buying it just because it's a stallion (which are rarely on the sales page).
Just my 2 cent opinion.
