None of the fillies are coming then, or were they pointing to the Melbourne Cup? Also, is that was Septimus and O'Brien's others were pointing for? Finally, really stupid question here: are the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup the only two, or is there another big race like that coming up? Thanks. *sheepish*

There's the big 3 races...Caulfield Cup over 12f, Cox Plate over 10f and the Melbourne Cup over 16f. The Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cups are handicaps while the Cox Plate is at weight for age, which to racing purists makes it the best race out of the three. They're the main races but there's heaps of other grade ones too. The biggest ones other than those three are probably the derby and the oaks.

There's a couple internationals in this race but the Melbounre Cup is where O'Brian is aiming Septimus and his others. They arrived in Australia just a couple days ago. I think there's 9 Euros hoping to run in the Melbourne Cup which is some sort of record. No Japanese this year due to qurantine restrictions.

Samantha Miss and Princess Coup are running in the Cox Plate this year, which is the following Saturday

Hope that helped :)

It does, and I thought there were three big ones, and now that you mention the Cox Plate I'm sort of hitting myself on the head lol. Thanks for all the information!

The Wilander- Lucky Secret quinella came off! other than that the tips were duds. I'm not betting this week but will post tips anyway

1- Haven't heard of most of these horss. Pass

2- Rocha!!!!! Certainty beaten last start. Oaks filly if I've ever seen one

3- Good race. Caymans was Caulfield Guineas quality so will go with him

4- Excelltastic- Race is ordinary and he's the class horse. Trustus for a place.

5- Very good race with many chances. Murtajill will place

6- Also a very good race. Go with the class- Mimi Lebrock. Have no idea why she ran 12th in her last start though

7- Baughurst is in good form and will go close in a 'who cares' kind of race

8- The Cup!!! I actually will miss it because I have to go to work but the winner will come from Weekend Hussler/ Littorio/ Master O'Reilly/ Boundless. If I had to bet maybe Bounless for a place

9- No reason why a 3yo won't win like wilander last week. Aichi will do me.

10- Again haven't heard of many of these. Maybe Sashenka

Also keep an eye out for Northern Meteor in Sydney. Won his maiden race like a champion in track record time.

Just got home from work and watched the race. It just proves our stayers are truly horrible. The euros surely go 1-2-3-4-5-6- however many there are in the cup

didn't get any bets on saturday thank goodness! my tips ran a lot of 4ths and 5ths, what a terrible day!

Still like Littorio for the melb cup. despite 5th in the caulfield cup. did his usual got way back but had to go 5 wide on the turn to get a run and came home very well despite travelling a lot further than the winners. There is no way there will be a bunch like that on the turn in the melbourne cup and he loves flemington!

Larry's Never Late also ran an eye catching 4th. He went for a gap on the straight that closed and was checked, went to the fence and was blocked, went out wide, came back to the gap that opened up again and pushed through, screamed after the leaders to finish 4th, but was obviously held up and will be one to watch next start.

Bring on the Cox Plate! Weight for age weekend Hussler would have creamed them but i guess he'll have a spell, so......... Samantha Miss will carry stuff all and be very hard to beat. I read in the paper this morning Glen Boss compare her (although he insisted he wasn't) to Makybe at the same age! On the other hand Zipping will carry heaps but looks race ready, could he be aimed at the cox this year and not the cup?

I should be doing homework but I'll do one more post

I was excited for the Cox Plate. Now it just seems exceptionally weak without the Hussler. It's meant to be the WFA championship but the field just seems to be like the Australian Cup with Samantha Miss added in. I would love to see Whobegotyou in the race.

Likely field? I'll have a go

Zipping 58
Master O'Reilly 58
Sirmione 58
Theseo 58
Raheeb 58
Nom du Jou 56.5
Alamosa 56.5
C'Est La Guerre 56.5
Princess Coup 55.5
Eskimo Queen 55.5
Zarita 54
Von Costa de Hero 48.5
Samantha Miss 46
Big Changes Electrocutionist x Subtle Admiration (Future Hero) $5K
Forty Four Years Worlds Abound x October Magic (Lokite Magic) $1K
Piston Azamour x Ipi Tombe (Manshood) $7.5K

It will be a good race, I think. I'm wondering, though-and this is pure speculation, as I don't read a lot of Aussie news and haven't seen his races-if this distance is simply too far for Weekend Hussler. Weren't a lot of his wins at a mile last year/whenever it was? I guess it'd be last winter for you guys? I get confused on what season it is over where you are lol.
