Coming Back to the Game After a Personal Break

Original article written by Serenity Sky posted 5 months 1 week ago

Breaks are important and inevitable. Times come where you need to focus your attention elsewhere, and real life should always come before a game, anyways.

It is important to note, however, that while breaks are acceptable and even encouraged, the SIM does require quite a bit of time and thought to be put into the game.

Should you decide to take a break, I would recommend setting up training sessions for your horses and also entering your horses in races earlier, planning everything out, that way, even if you only check back in every few weeks just a few times, your horses will still be earning you money and be progressing towards the ultimate goal. Unfortunately, this will likely mean you have to invest in a SIMperior account, but, as most players will agree to, it is a very worthwhile investment.

My biggest regret when it came to taking my breaks is that I did not set these plans in place, and it left me with many horses sitting and eating up my money, and many yearlings, 2- and 3-year olds were not progressing forward. When I did eventually come back, I was very heavily in the negatives, a lot of my horses were unfit, and many of my racers had aged up past their prime and I now have little to no hopes of them ever performing on the track. It was a bunch of wasted potential, and now, the younger racers that I do have will have their time wasted being brought back up to peak physical form before they can race. On top of that, I also had not kept up with workouts, and most of my horses do not have equipment figured out, thus adding even more time to their training instead of valuable time that they could have spent racing and earning more money. At this point, they are wasting my money instead of raking in the money as I had originally hoped for. It is an unfortunate circumstance, and hopefully it is one that I will remember more in the future when it comes to taking breaks.

A tip I have to avoid these issues, is blocking out time either during one day or during each day where you can come in and do the bare minimum efforts of checking on your horses, checking on trainings, entering races, etc.

Should you find you are struggling with taking care of your horses, you may also consider selling a good portion of them, until you are at a comfortable number where you can easily take care of and manage them.

Investing in an assistant trainer whom you trust is also another way to manage your breaks. However, make sure that it is someone you very heavily trust, as they will have the same management permissions as you would.

None of this is to dissuade you from taking a much needed break from the game, but do pay some mind to what may happen to your precious ponies when you come back. You don’t want to set yourself back too far. Plan accordingly, and you should show no issues.
