Anthem’s Guide To Breeding!

Original article written by Anthem Theodosia posted 7 weeks 2 days ago

I figured since most/a lot of these articles are a little older I’d make a new guide! Now keep in mind, I am an intermediate player and still have a lot to learn about breeding, but based on my first two breedings two seasons ago I’d say I have a good idea of where to hang.
Of course with the help of a lot of veteran players and grasping advice from more seasoned players, I’ve formatted a guide to follow.
TO CLARIFY, I have SIMperior and would HIGHLY recommend to Invest in this enhancer. It allows for easier access to picking stallions for your mare; as well as some inside information on your horses you may not have known before.

Step 1: Pick your broodmare.
Of course, to start off breeding you’ll need to pick a RETIRED mare you’d like to breed. I personally don’t bother with any mare lower than a productive gallop and formidable rating. Anything lower in my opinion is a waste of your money.
For the purposes of this tutorial, I will reference my mare, Alfa Kilo . With SIMperior, I can see that Alfa Kilo is a Dirt Router. You want to breed like to like. Therefore, Alfa Kilo should be bred to another Dirt Router stud. Once that is determined you can move onto step 2.

Step 2: Finding A Few Studs.
Once you’ve determined your mare’s type, go to manage and under breeding select the stud book. Under TB will be all the types, in this case we will select Dirt Router. By default, the book is set to the freak%, however freak is very rare and even the best studs may not produce a single freak. As a result, I like to change it to productive/allowance%. I then change the order from alphabetical to pricing. I usually don’t pay any if at all mind to any stud below 10k, as usually those studs are just starting out and have no accurate stats.
After that, I just start clicking studs. Usually I’ll click any stud with a % of 28 or more. Sometimes you can look through their nicks and choose from there, but usually the nicks are dead.
Once you have a selection of studs you like, move onto step 3.

Step 3: Finding the perfect stud.
Once you have your selection of studs, I like to either put their names in the notes section of the broodmares or keep their tabs open.
You can now hypomate this horse and see how its lineage compares to the chosen studs. I preferably do not like these hypomates to have any bold from farthest left side to three generations back. Once you’ve narrowed down to the studs who you like hypomated to your mare, I’d go ahead and ask the bloodstock agent about the breeding(s) you’d like if you have the game points. If the rating between the two is a C rating, I would see what your other selected studs are and go from there. If you get another C or low rating, it could very well be your mare who is tanking the hypograde. Now step 4!

Step 4: Finalizing
Once you’re happy with your selection, you can go ahead and breed your two horses! It’ll bring you to a page on information of the foal. Check the first checkbox. This will allow you to rename your foal for free later on.
After that, I would go ahead and select filly as many times as you can before you have to have a 50/50 ratio. This is because if this filly is a good runner, it could be a better producer and give you more foals for cheaper since you won’t have to be hunting for broodmares.
I personally don’t care about anything else and let the game decide. Once you hit breed, your foal will be born!

Congrats!
My next article will be a guide on how to bring up your yearlings! :)
