Del Mar Wins Kentucky Derby
Original article written by The Steward posted 17 years 1 week agoLaura Ferguson won her first Kentucky Derby when homebred Del Mar took the Run for the Roses by 3/4 of a length over longshot Assassin and favored I Said Don't Do It. The three-year-old son of Vindication settled behind the leaders and made a bold run at the 1/4 pole, dueled down the stretch, and edged out the win.
Out of Kindness finished fourth, and third-choice Torero finished fifth after running from last into a paceless race. Epic was sixth.
Del Mar is a 3/4 to top older horse California. Ferguson also ran two others in the race, Derby Report (7th) and Cherish the Moment (14th).
