Steward-bred Thoroughbreds, Ten Year Olds

Original article written by Zero Smith posted 11 years 0 weeks ago

To avoid any confusion the use of the word “cost” throughout this article is referring only to the original purchase price paid for a horse. Any subsequent re-selling of a horse is ignored and all other follow-on cost (board, rent, insurance, shipping, equipment, vet fees, entry fees etc) are ignored.

The object is to learn from history how much prizemoney from racing alone these horses have been returning as a group (and sub groups), and to contrast that against their original purchase cost. No individual horse names will be mentioned.

With Sim year 35 now under way, a search for 10 year old Thoroughbreds that were bred by “The Steward” will list 301 horses. This article is focusing on that group of horses and the information used below, especially the 'return' amounts (i.e. prizemoney won from racing), are valid with the completion of Sim year 34.

GIVEN/KEPT HORSES
7 of these horses were not sold by The Steward. 6 of them were “given” to certain players to train and race, 5 of these 6 horses were females, the other is a gelding. Another filly was purposefully kept for breeding only. This leaves 294 horses that were sold to various players through various auctions.

SOLD HORSES
These 294 Stewardbred Thoroughbreds will now be tested, or contrasted, as a group and as various sub groups.
Firstly an 'All In ' analysis of them, the whole 294, will bring forth the following information:

Average cost: $1,255,983 Average return: $353,135 Average profit: -$902,848
Median cost: $518,000 Median return: $215,585 Median profit: -$302,415

Secondly taking the dearest 10% (29 horses) of the above 294 horses will give these totals:

Median cost: $5,159,463 Median return: $584,400 Median profit: -$4,575,063

Thirdly taking the cheapest 10% (29 horses) of this same group of Stewardbreds will contribute the following result:
Total cost: $2,758,000 Total return: $5,553,325 Total profit: +$2,795,325
