History of the Steward’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Pace

Original article written by Kyasuriin Matsumoto posted 10 years 3 weeks ago

Year 29 – Feel the Fury (by Writethisdown) won the inaugural Steward’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Pace off an unbeaten two-year-old season. Leading up to the race, the filly capped off wins in the New Jersey Juvenile Fillies Pace, Ayres Pace, and Mystic Park Pace before winning the Cup by 2 lengths over second place finisher Cash Lobell. Feel the Fury was awarded with the SIMMY for Champion Two Year Old Female Pacer for owner, trainer, and breeder Josh Lamp. Feel the Fury has now had six foals to date, including Big Blue Bucket winner Hot Fury (by Hotternell).

Year 30 – Sister Blister (by Kwai) won the race by a ¼ length over second place finisher Idogetmoney. The filly preceded the win with a win in the Ayres Pace and fifth place finish in the Mystic Park Pace. For her hard work, Sister Blister, took home the SIMMY award for Champion Two Year Old Female Pacer for owner, trainer, and breeder Mike Prevost. Sister Blister has had five foals to date.

Year 31 – Freak Show (by Writethisdown) was somewhat of a longshot in the Year 31 race. The filly had second and fourth place finishes in stakes races before setting up for the Steward’s Cup with a maiden special weight win. Nevertheless, Freak Show won the race by a nose over second place finisher Inscriptions and took home the SIMMY for Pacer Champion Two Year Old Female for owner, trainer, and breeding Josh Lamp. Freak Show has had four foals to date.

Year 32 – Can’t Miss (by Missile Mike) was the favorite going into Year 32’s Juvenile Fillies Pace. The filly won the New Jersey Juvenile Fillies Pace, placed second in the Ayres Pace, and won the Mystic Park Pace to set up for the race. Can’t Miss won by a head over second place finisher Hawala and took home the SIMMY for Pacer Champion Two Year Old Female. She has had three foals to date for owner, trainer, and breeder Josh Lamp.

Year 33 – Flame in My Heart (by Scary Fast) has just blazed up the track for owner, trainer, and breeder Lori Hamill since she was born. The filly began her career with wins in the Dreaming Out Loud Stakes, Ayres Pace, and a third place finish in the Pace to Burn Stakes and then cemented the Champion Two Year Old Female Pacer SIMMY award by winning the Juvenile Fillies Pace by a neck over second place finisher Scary Money. The mare has gone on to win two other Steward’s Cup races before retirement last year so there is more to come on this mare in future articles.

Year 34 – Rocketfuel (by Hotternell) took the race by a ½ length over second place finisher Check for owner, trainer, and breeder Josh Lamp. The filly set up for the race with a win in the Dreaming Out Loud Stakes, fourth place finish in the Cash Lobell Stakes, second place finish in the My Latest Novel Stakes, and a win in the Pace to Burn Stakes. Rocketfuel took the Champion Two Year Old Female Pacer SIMMY award for the season and is still racing for her owner.

Year 35 – Missile Pat (by Missile Mike) was a favorite going in to last year’s Steward’s Cup. The filly won the New Jersey Juvenile Fillies Pace and placed second in the Ayres Pace and Mystic Park Pace (never settling for less than an 80 speed figure). She then won the race by a neck over stablemate Gotthewrite for owner, trainer, and breeder Josh Lamp, and took home the SIMMY for Champion Two Year Old Female Pacer. Missile Pat will be returning to the track for her three-year-old season soon.
