Holy Blood Makes SIM Pacing History with a Crown
Original article written by Andrea Bouwkamp posted 9 years 0 weeks agoIt was certainly an exciting Wednesday night of racing this week as the Big Blue Bucket Stakes was set to feature a possible Pacing Triple Crown winner.
Izzy Rafferty’s Holy Blood did not disappoint as he once again held off his rival, Holy Irishman, to become only the SIM’s 2nd Pacing Triple Crown winner.
In my preview article about the field for this event, there was only 4 entrants at that time. By the time the race was contested, 3 more entrants filled up the field to 7.
When it was all said and done, it came down to the big two once again.
Holy Blood took the lead and never looked back while holding off Holy Irishman by a neck. Holy Irishman was 1 ¾ lengths clear of the 3rd place horse, Writemylife, a new entrant smartly placed by Mike Larson.
Holy Irishman is the SIM’s version of the real life racing’s Thoroughbred Alydar, finishing 2nd in every triple crown race while making the final two races close finishes. I want to congratulate Kyasuriin Matsumoto on making a gallant bid to challenge Holy Blood.
“I was prepared for anything to happen in the Big Blue Bucket including a last place finish – which has happened to me," stated Rafferty. “Harness horses can be really frustrating to run in the SIM due to the disparity that can and does happen to even the very best horses. I have eaten a lot of humble pie from more than a few in the past, trust me. They are great about keeping you on your toes for sure, but a really good one like Holy Blood is so much fun to race that I wouldn't trade it for the world.”
