Original article written by Nathan Klein posted 4 years 2 weeks ago

In Year 23 Paint Racing was inaugurated into the SIM. That year many new and talented horses would be introduced. At 870 Yards the legendary Blue Max would dominate for two straight years. But a year is never boiled down to one good horse. At the shorter distances below 870, there was still a champion to be made. No horse for 400 yards, or even shorter than that, 300-350 yards. But soon the champion of below 400 yards would be introduced in the second week of Paint Racing. His name was So Hot Im Shocking.

Although the start of his first race would begin with an awkward beginning at the break. He would finish strong and claim his first win by 1 and 3/4 lengths. After a long 5 week hiatus, he would run in his first graded stakes race, the Grade 3 New Mexico Paint Juvenile where he broke quickly and got up by a head over Fully Loaded. In his next start, he would break in, diving but hold off Austin by half a length in the Meagan D'Amoure Stakes, and then finish off the year with a second win over Fully Loaded in the Radium Springs Special. Although he lost Paint Champion Two-Year-Old Male to China Grove, So Hot Im Shocking still had a great year with 4 straight wins.

His 3-Year-Old Season would start almost immediately in the Ruidoso Paint Cup where he would face off against Fully Loaded for the third time. They all broke well with Moonshine Holla in front closely followed by Serpentine Fire. However, Serpentine Fire faded with Fully Loaded, Marshmallow, and So Hot Im Shocking all charging late. It was gonna be close and at the wire, the 4 horses would all finish noses apart. But by the slimmest of margins So Hot Im Shocking had won the blanket finish. It would be one of So Hot Im Shockings gutsiest races and his last win in his 5 race winnings streak. After another 5 week break, he ran against 11 other rivals in the My Friend Stakes. The race was chaos with every horse super close to each other. But on the rail, Apollinaire snuck up to win with Marshmallow nosing out So Hot Im Shocking for second place.

Following this he would suffer his only other loss when Buckeye defeated So Hot Im Shocking by a head in an Allowance race. But despite these two losses So Hot Im Shocking would go right back up to stakes company in the On The Way To The Championship Stakes. He would have a rematch with Apollinaire, and Buckeye. Along with his old rival Fully Loaded. So Hot Im Shocking broke fast and let Buckeye take the lead but after that So Hot Im Shocking turned it up a level moving faster and faster until passing by Buckeye and holding off Apollinaire and Fully Loaded to win. So Hot Im Shocking was back and ready to win biggest race of his life, The Paint Dash.

The race was off Dun Dappled Grey went to the lead with E Street Band right on his neck. However, they soon would begin to tire giving Strawfly Firewater the lead right behind So Hot Im Shocking, the two battled it out but So Hot Im Shocking was just too good. Turning a whole extra gear, So Hot Im Shocking began to unexpectedly pull away from the rest of the field opening up a quarter of a length over Strawfly Firewater and winning.

Following this he was rewarded with Paint Champion Three-Year-Old Male that year and was retired with 9 starts, 7 wins 1 second and 1 third and $263,300 in earnings. In the breeding shed his progeny would earn $6,528,220 with multiple stars such as Ruidoso Paint Fillies Cup winner Ribbons and Bows. Raceracerace stakes winner Quick to Burn and Furious Velvet Stakes winner Gunna Rockurworld.
