W7 Turf G1 Summary

A summary of W7 in the wonderful world of turf!

In Asia the G1 Hong Kong Champions Mile was run on a Good track and won by Spirit Of Dubawi (Nightwatch) for trainer Richard Breedlove who races him on a lease from breeder Lee Cara. It is the second G1 win for the 4yo colt after winning the New Zealand Sweepstakes last year.

The Nakayama Mile was won by 4yo filly Bedtime Secrets (Under Stars) a homebred for Abby Brooks. It is her first G1 win and her seventh win from 15 starts. She is the half sister to Tennyson who finished third the Stewards Cup.

In North America the Weezer Stakes was run over a mile and a half for Fillies and Mares. 5yo mare Ivermectined (Ivor) was the winner for Stephen Saratoga. It was her third G1 win and she has a companion cat named Daman.

The Sorority Oaks was run for 3yo fillies over a mile and three sixteenths and won by Das Kelpie (Impacts) a homebred for David Howard. It was her first G1 win and her fourth win at her seventh start.

In South Africa the South African Crown was run for 3yos over 9 furlongs. The winner was Foxtrot (Destination Anywhere) a homebred for Laura Ferguson. It was his first G1 win and fourth win from 5 starts. He has a companion goat named Tango.

The South African Cup for 4yos and up was won by 5yo horse The Farewell (Improvisational) for trainer Dave Trainer and breeder Luis Polar. It was his fifth G1 win and he is down to retire to stud at the end of the year.

In Australia the Brisbane Trophy was run over 2 miles for 4yos and up. 6yo horse Pademus (Be Right There) was the winner for Kaine Saracen. He was the winner of the Saudi Turf Marathon at his last start and has a companion cat named Monty.


With a short week for G1s lets turn our attention to some impressive miler debutants.

2yo colt Spirited Flight (Mecca Spirit) was a comfortable winner by 3.5 lengths with a high speed figure in Brazil for trainer Kent Saunders. At Toronto Racecourse 2yo filly The Moment I Knew (Modern Games) was a 2 length winner for Abby Brooks. Also on the same card the Andrew James trained Careless Whisper (Emaraaty Ana) won by a comfortable 2.5 lengths.

In London 2yo colt Tithanos Spirit (Tithanos) was a 2.75 length winner for trainer Lucas Davenport. In Norway the Tammy Stawicki trained Sea Mist (Daydream Believer) was a 1 length winner with a high speed figure.

In Florida 2yo filly Her Reflection (Space Telescope) was a 2 ¾ length winner for Anthony Zappulla. On the same card Fear No Memories (Be Only Kind) was a 3 length winner for Anthony Zappulla and The Great Alone (Son Of Zom) was a winner for Lori Hamill.

In The Bahamas 2yo colt Rand Perfumerie (Rand Al’thor) was a 2 length winner for Lucas Davenport who also won in Australia with Jardins Arcangela (Jardins Airlie) by a massive 6 lengths.
