W10 Turf G1 Summary

Welcome to a summary of Week 10 in the wonderful world of (flat) turf!

Starting in Paris on Day 1 this week with the French Derby for 3yos over a mile and a half. Trailblazing (Shahryah) was the winner for Cleo Patra. It was the first G1 for the colt who is out of the magnificent mare State Of The Art who was a dual G1 winner.

The French Oaks was run over the same distance for the 3yo fillies and was won by Goodbye Yesterday (Lusteroflostthings) for Stormy Peak. She is a half sister to G1 winner Forever Knight who now stands at stud. It is her first G1 win and she takes her record to 5 wins from 8 starts.

The Little Miss Moon stakes was run over 6.5 furlongs for Fillies and Mare and was won by Moonlight Kiss (Tragically Hip) a 4yo filly for Mr Lord Rich. It was her first G1 win though she has never finished outside of the placings in 18 starts.

In South Africa the 2yos did battle in the Venda Stakes over a mile for their first G1 of the year with Albus Dumbledore (Make My Spirit) the winner for Katie Stepanian to remain unbeaten at his second start.

In Canada 4yo filly Kitty (Beau) beat the males in the Toronto Mile. She is a homebred for Rochelle Bos and a full sister to multiple G1 winner Still Into You. This is her 6th G1 win and 9th career win from 15 starts.

Over to Asia on Day 5 where the Japanese Oaks was run over a mile and a half for 3yo fillies where Wildfire Anywhere (Destination Anywhere) was the winner for Stephen Saratoga. It was the second G1 win for the Steward bred who is now 6 wins from 8 starts.

The Japanese Derby was also run over a mile and a half where the winner was Genshin Impact (Impacts) a homebred for Ma Springs. It was his second G1 win after taking out the Japanese Guineas over a mile and a quarter last start.

In Europe 5yo horse Pulpit Rock (Windborn) won the Prince Of England Stakes over a mile and a quarter for Meghan Kingsley. It was his first G1 win and ninth career win from 22 starts and he has a companion cat named Hops.

The Golden Carnival Stakes was run over 6 furlongs where the winner was 6yo horse Satono Samurai (Talus) for Karl Smythe. It was his second G1 win and his ninth career win from 19 starts. He is the half brother to Monday Royale a $1.2 million earner who now stands at stud.

The 3yo fillies raced over a mile in the Grand Victory Stakes where the winner was Sazzy (Son Of Zom) a homebred for Jeffrey Clauser. It was her first G1 win and her fifth career win from seven starts.

In the Palace Of The Saints Stakes for 3yos over a mile the winner was Trastevere (Beau) for Trastevere Peru. It was his second G1 win after winning the Los Campeones Juvenile last season. He has a companion cat called Libertina.

In South Africa the 3yo fillies battled over 9 furlongs in the Cape Town Oaks on a good track where the winner was Come And Get Her (There There There) for Paul Sellers. It is her second G1 win from seven starts and she has a companion cat named Drummer.

In North America the United Freedoms Stakes was run over 11 furlongs on a good track and won by Song Of Wyoming (Nightmarch) for Erin Sanderson. It was the 22nd win from 44 starts for the 9yo warhorse who has earned over $2.2 million.

The Fillies and Mares raced over 9.5 furlongs in the Cupid’s Arrow Stakes on a good track. The winner was Just So You Smile (Don’t Forget Me) a 5yo mare for Mike Springer. It was her nineth win from 18 starts and she has a companion cat named Dimples.

The 3yo fillies raced over 9 furlongs in the Virginia Oaks with Amor Primero (First Class) the winner for Karl Smythe. It was her first G1 win in six starts though she did place in the Stewards Cup last year. She is a half sister to 2x Millionaires.

In the Virginia Turf Cup for 3yos over 9.5 furlongs the winner was Streets Of London (With Drama) for Carolyn Eaton. It was his fifth career win from eight starts and he finished second in the Louisville Bunbury. He has a companion cat named Handy.

Finally in Australia 3yo colt Ink Black Heart (Nightwatch) beat the older horses in the Doncaster Trophy over a mile. A $10,000 buy from a dispersal for trainer Katie Stepanian he is now three wins from eight starts.
