A summary of W15 G1 races in the amazing world of turf!

A short week this week starting in Asia on Day 5 with the Hong Kong Turf Distaff for Fillies And Mares over a mile and a half. The winner was 3yo filly Heart Afire (Still Fire) a homebred for Erin Sanderson. She is a granddaughter of 6x G1 winner Cursebreaker.

The Hong Kong Turf Cup was run over a mile and a quarter where the winner was Quintilla (Impacts) a 4yo colt for Danny Derby. It was his third G1 win and sixth career win from fourteen starts. He is a grandson of 4x G1 winner True Love Waits.

The Hong Kong Turf Sprint was run over 6 furlongs where 3yo colt It’s Still Alright (Time Test) was the winner for Laura Smith. It was his fourth G1 win and eighth career win from fourteen starts and he has a companion cat named Orange.

The Hong Kong Turf Mile was won by 5yo horse I Wonder (Backstreet Boy) for Rebecca Rose Hepburn. It was his second G1 win and thirteenth career win. He has a companion cat named Sunwing.

Mecca Icon (Nightwatch) beat the boys in the Nakayama Futurity Stakes over a mile for trainer Steve Handley. It was her first G1 win and second career win from four starts. She is a half sister to G1 winner and sire Mecca Spirit.

The Osaka Juvenile Fillies was run over a mile and won by Puma Paws (Rand Al’thor) for trainer Xander Zone. She was sold for $4 million by breeder Gigi Gofaster. It was her third win at her fourth start.

The only G1 in North America this week was the Commitisize Stakes for 2yos over a mile where the winner was Dragon’s Song (Nightwatch) a homebred for Rochelle Bos. It was his third win at his fourth start.

In South Africa the 2yos raced in the Champion Mile Stakes where the winner was Salariat (Nightwatch) for trainer Tammy Stawicki. He is a half brother to 3x G1 winner and sire Omnicience. It was his third win at his fourth start and he has a companion cat named Torres Del Paine.

The Flower Petal Plate was run for Fillies and Mares over 2 miles where the winner was 3yo filly Wild Dreaming (Wildness) for trainer Wc Lee. It was her first G1 win and third career win at her eleventh start.

In Australia the 3yos battled in the Western Australian Guineas where the winner was Sandrunner (Jardins Airlie) for Andrew James. It was his first G1 win and fifth career win from ten starts.
