W16 Turf G1 Summary

Welcome to the final week of Y66 in the wonderful world of turf. Wish me luck getting through 30 something races this week!

Starting in South Africa this week on a Yielding track where 2yo filly Salt and Pepper (Hozier Daddy) beat the boys in the University Stakes over 9 furlongs. It was her second win from three starts for trainer Maria Schreuder who brought her as a foal from breeder Miso Leeson.

Over to Argentina starting with the Los Campeones Turf which was run over 2 miles where 3yo filly Faith Healer (Improvisational) won by a nose for trainer Tim Matthews. It was her fourth career win and second G1 win from eight starts.

The Los Campeones Turf Sprint was run over 5 furlongs and won by 5yo horse To The Breeze (Face The Wind) for trainer Laura Smith. It was his second G1 win and fourteenth career win at his 25th start. He is out of multiple stakeswinner Flaxen Points and has since retired to stud.

The Los Campeones Juvenile was run for 2yos over a mile where the winner was Rhythm Of War (Backstreet Boy) for Sten Rino Haakonsen. It was his first G1 win and third career win at his fifth start.

The Los Campeones Juvenile Fillies was run for 2yo fillies and the winner was As The Night Goes By (Nightwatch) a homebred for trainer Hope Bentley. She is from the same family as Stewards Cup winner Faith In You.

The Los Campeones Juniors Sprint was run over 6 furlongs where the winner was See Me No More (I Have It All) for trainer Mr Lord Rich. It was his first G1 win and fourth career win at his sixth start. He is a grandson of G1 winner Celebratetheworld.

The Los Campeones Route was run over a mile and a quarter where 5yo horse Mybestblacksocks (Two Socks) was the winner for Nick Gilmore. It was his seventh career win at his 22nd start and he has a companion cat named Joey.

The Los Campeones Distaff was run over a mile and a quarter where the winner was 4yo filly Treve De Triomphe (Amor De Verano) for Karl Smythe. It was her first G1 win and fifth career win at her fifteenth start. She is a granddaughter of Stewards Cup winner Two Toned Tiger.

On Day Four the future stars of tomorrow took the stage in the Stewards Cup. The Turf Dash was run over 5.5 furlongs where the winner was Somebody Else’s Sky (Space Blues) for trainer Laura Smith. It was his sixth win at his seventh start and he has a companion goat named Goatly.

The Filly Turf Dash was run over 5.5 furlongs where the winner was The Shield Maiden (Gord’s Secret) a homebred for trainer John D’arc. It was her second G1 win and fifth career win at her seventh start. She has a companion cat named Thyra.

The Juvenile Turf was run over a mile and won by over 3 lengths by Druddigon (Nightwatch) who remained unbeaten at his fifth start for trainer Brian Leavitt. He has a companion cat named Litten.

The Juvenile Fillies Turf was run over a mile and won by Zed Leppelin (Mecca Spirit) for trainer Diane Townsend. It was her fourth win at her fifth start and she has a companion cat named (Jimmy) Page.

The Stewards Cup Bunburette was run over 9 furlongs for 2yo fillies where the winner was Set My World On Fire (Artilleryman) for Tim Matthews. It was her second win at her third start. She is a granddaughter of Arc de Triomphe winner Fire To Look At and is a half sister to Otherside who also won a G1 this week.

The Stewards Cup Bunbury was run over 9 furlongs where the winner was Amor De Tempesta (Amor De Verano) who remained unbeaten at his third start for trainer Carolyn Eaton. He has a companion goat named Tempest.

In Asia on Day 5 the Tokyo Sprint Championship was run over 6 furlongs where the winner was 5yo horse Shadowridge (Feather’s Shadow) for trainer Xander Zone. It was his third G1 win and twelfth career win at his 27th start.

The Orfevre Stakes was run over 9 furlongs for 2yos and the winner was Double Proof (Right Proof) a homebred for trainer Gina Cork. It was his third win at his fourth start.

The Gentildonna Stakes was run for 2yo fillies over 9 furlongs where the winner was Heroes Ballad (Avengers Assemble) for Todd Lucas. It was her second win at her third start and she is out of G1 winner Celene.

The Arima Kinen was run over 10.5 furlongs where the photo declared 3yo colt Otherside (Don’t Forget Me) the winner by a head for trainer Tim Matthews. It was his second G1 win and fifth career win at his eighth start. He has a companion cat named Set My Cat On Fire.

In Europe the Hyde Park Cup was run for 2yo fillies on a good track over 8.5 furlongs. The winner was Run Swift (Right Proof) who remained unbeaten at his fourth start for trainer Keith Place.

The Royal Princess Stakes was a player sponsored race for 4yo fillies over a mile and a half where the winner was A Great Big Sled (Impacts) for trainer Tim Matthews. It was her second G1 win and fourth career win from thirteen starts.

The London Times Trophy was run over 8.5 furlongs for 2yos where the winner was Un Truco Barato (Dream Police) for trainer Kelly Haggerty. It was his second win at his third start and he has a companion cat named Spanky.

The Runaway Stakes was run over 6 furlongs where the winner was 3yo colt Northern Attitude (Mattawan) for Laura Smith. It was his seventh win at his fourteenth start and he has a companion cat named Grey.

In the Birthday Candles Stakes over a mile 3yo filly Silver Maverick (Regal Maverick) beat the boys for trainer Tamara Estes. He is out of dual G1 winner Silver Dream who is herself out of Stewards Cup winner Silver and Steel.

The English Champion Stakes was run over a mile and a half where the winner was 5yo horse Cigarette Daydreams (Dissimulation) for Ryan Whitehead. He is out of dual G1 winner Summerized and has a companion cat named Ziggy.

In South Africa the Champion’s Vase was run on a firm track over 9 furlongs where the winner was 4yo colt Growing Crops (Impacts) for Randall Allen. It was his fourth G1 win and ninth career win at his seventeenth start and he has a companion cat named Stone.

In North America the Running Hat Stakes was a player sponsored race for 3yo geldings over a mile and a quarter on a soft track where the winner was Hat Hat Hat (Valar) for trainer Autumn Blackmill. It was his second career win at his third start after finishing second in the Arc de Triomphe last start and he has companion cat named Cat Cat Cat.

The Magellan Stakes was run for 2yos over 8.5 furlongs on a firm track where the winner was Cinema (Auguste Rodin) for trainer Cleo Patra. He is the first foal out of dual G1 winner Staged. It was his fourth win at his fifth start and he has a companion cat named Pixel.

Over to Toronto Racecourse where the Stewards Cup was held. Starting with the Filly and Mare Turf Sprint over 5 furlongs where champion 4yo filly Lord’s Champion (Dirk Provin) was the winner for Mr Lord Rich. It was her sixteenth win at her nineteenth start and her third Stewards Cup Trophy.

The Stewards Cup Turf Sprint was over 5 furlongs where the winner was 3yo colt Tima (I Am Inevitable) for Matthew McMahon. It was his sixth G1 win and eleventh career win at his fourteenth start. He is out of Stewards Cup winner Pymble.

The Filly and Mare Turf Mile was won by 4yo filly Kitty (Beau) a homebred for trainer Rochelle Bos. It was her eighth G1 win and eleventh career win at her seventeenth start. She is a full sister to multiple G1 winner Still Into You who stands at stud.

The Stewards Cup Turf Mile was won by 5yo horse Goldeneyes (Tithanos) a homebred for trainer Andrew James. It was his third G1 win and sixth career win along with numerous placings in big G1 races. He is now available at stud.

The Filly and Mare Turf was run over a mile and a quarter and won by 4yo filly Less Has Changed (Impacts) for Andrew Chillin. It was her third G1 win and ninth career win at her seventeenth start. She was third in the Arc de Triomphe last start.

The Stewards Cup Turf was run over a mile and a half and won by 5yo mare Signaling (Improvisational) for Eric Nalbone. It was her seventeenth career win and third Stewards Cup win and she has a companion cat named Buck.

Finally to Australia where the Royal Australian Oaks was run for 3yo fillies over a mile and a half where the winner was One More Dispatch (One More Page) for trainer Pat Mcgowan. It was her first G1 win and third career win at her eleventh start.

The Melbourne Trophy was run over 2 miles where the winner was 6yo horse Pademus (Be Right There) for trainer Kaine Saracen. It was his fifteenth career win and he has now earned over $8 million. He has a companion cat named Monty.
