Legendary Loki Dynasty Pensioned

Original article written by The Steward posted 15 years 0 weeks ago

After 10 weeks of persistent rumors regarding his declining fertility, the mighty stallion Loki Dynasty has been pensioned.

The eleven-year-old son of Conduit sired 415 total offspring in his eight seasons as a stallion, including some of the greatest horses the track has seen in recent years. This year's Louisville Derby winner, High Flyer, is a daughter of Brianna McKenzie's legend, as is Notorious, Ramses II, Boise, Such Great Heights, Baffert, and Part of My Heart.

McKenzie purchased the son of Sahara Gold for $12 million at the Year 12 Trial By Summer Select Yearling Sale and took him through a near impossible campaign that left him undefeated in every start except one, the Steward's Cup Classic of Year 15 where he barely lost to fellow superstar Atlas, edging future sire sensation Saga. Loki Dynasty won not only the Louisville Derby but the Queen's Plate as well, and then proceeded to polish off the rest of the Canadian Triple Crown. He was a Grade 1 winner on both the turf and the dirt, and a stakes winner from 6 furlongs to 1 1/2 miles.

Loki Dynasty produced only two foals from his first crop, the million dollar earner Part of My Heart and $500,000 earner Kingdom. His second crop included Baltimore Crown winner Boise, dual surface stars Lightsaber and Baffert, and the useful mare Destined to Meet who just missed $1 million in earnings. A very small crop of 16 foals were born the next year, resulting in $1.4 million earner A Man Among Boys and the hot sire Loki Superior. In Year 17, Steward's Cup Distaff winner Such Great Heights was born, as well as the neat, undefeated all weather horse The Right to Dream, who has just passed $1 million.

Boise State Boy, Baby Blue, and Thar He Blows had to take a backseat to fellow "Loki D" offspring Ramses II the next year. The juvenile sensation is attempting a comeback this summer on the turf. Of course, Loki Dynasty's finest filly, the Derby winner High Flyer, was born a year later, and he already has 14 winners, including the undefeated sensation Awake As I Am, in his juvenile crop, most of which haven't started yet.

All together, Loki Dynasty sired 73% winners and 23% stakes winners, with $40 million in progeny earnings so far. He has 196 total winners so far, and is sure to pass the all time leading sire mark in coming years.

The racing industry will miss this all time great terribly.
