Original article written by Louise Bayou posted 14 years 0 weeks ago

The Steward's Cup Juvenile had a field of 11 royally bred colts, who were all looking to earn that $2,000,000 purse.

But this day belonged to the Ali LaDuke home bred Redwood. This black son of California and the lovely Temple would not be defeated. He broke smoothly, tucked in behind horses and made a sweeping wide move to win by 1/4 of a length. For his efforts he earned a 92 speed figure, the highest in his short career. With the $1,000,000 in purse money, his total earnings stand at $1,147,500 and his race record at a perfect 4:4-0-0.

Finishing a close second was Amy Schmidt's Prophet. This small colt by East broke well and was willing in the stretch to just miss. He earned a very nice 91 speed figure and $440,000 for his efforts. Amanda Kessler's $4,500,000 Steward bred purchase All the Reasons was third in this race. He broke well, sat just behind the leaders and was game in to the stretch. This son of Tiago is out of the Conduit mare Our Love. She has progeny earnings of $13,155,090, and is the dam of
multi millionaires Don't Mess and Same Old Plot. Also the millionaires Depths Of The Sea and Promise Not to Cry are by this dam as well.

The California colt Rancho finished fourth. This Larry Burndorf home bred broke quickly, vied for the lead but had nothing late for the top finishers. He did earn a career high 89 speed figure and $140,000 for his effort. This brings his earnings to $190,500 and his race record to 4:2-1-0. He is out of the Braveheart mare No Heart. Rancho is her first foal of racing age.

Amy Schmidt's other entry, Desert finished fifth in this race. The $3,500,000 Steward bred purchase broke last, was wide off the turn and was out finished.
